Fiberside Summer Crawl 2024

Thank you for joining us at the Fiberside Summer Crawl. We feel honoured to be part of this wonderful association of Local Yarn Shops across North America. We're here to provide you with the know-how, motivation and inspiration to develop your craft.

Welcome to our online campus at Yarniversity!

We connect with talented designers and teachers to bring knowledge and expertise to you. We provide motivation and encouragement and we support your learning with friendly and helpful advice. We currently have classes posted with Ann Budd, Barb Barone, Carissa BrowningKate Atherley and Sarah Schira. We also love being part of the Fiberside Chats, where we get to introduce you to designers, crafters, mill owners, and many more fantastic folks every two weeks.

Our online classes are presented professionally and recorded, in case you miss the live session. We assign a TA (teaching assistant) to every class to assist you before, during and after the sessions. You're in great hands when you learn with us!

Find our campus online at: https://rivercityyarns.com.

Visit our campus "bookstore" for great designs.

Currently, we're working ahead on a number of Jolly July projects such as the Epic Christmas Stocking, Mini Mittens and Mini Stockings and Jolly Juniper Trees. Our Epic Christmas Stocking comes with a whole ☃️ playlist of tutorials. Why not knit along with us?

We're also working on warm (but quick!) projects for winter gift giving: the Zürich Hat by Eric Lutz, Heavenly Mittens by Ann Budd, and the Rotunda Hat and Cowl by Nigel Pottle are a few of our favourites.

And we love our Canadiana! Check out the Lumberjack (or Jill) Mitts by Holli Yeoh, Fuzzy Foot Socks by Cynthia Hyslop and the Lucky Mitts by Fiona Ellis. Want to know why they're called "Lucky" mitts? It's all about a the pocket for the Lucky Loonie. Here's the origin story, if you're curious.

Interested in Comfy and Colourful? Check out the Rosalind Hat and Mitts by Fiona Ellis and the Luxe Slipper Socks by Kate Atherley. Fiona also designed a Rosalind cardigan and a Rosalind Cowl!

We also have an extensive library of designs that will inspire and motivate your creativity. With great designers like Fiona Ellis, Holli Yeoh, Kate Atherley, Ann BuddLucy NeatbyStephanie Pearl-McPhee, Cynthia Hyslop, Jessie McKitrick, Barb Brown, Eric Lutz, Sabrina Humeniuk and Nigel Pottle

Barb and Cynthia are your hosts at Yarniversity

Barb Barone and Cynthia Hyslop are the dynamic, Canadian, sister-duo behind Podcast On! This monthly video podcast brings you "behind the scenes" and introduces you to new people and places. You'll find motivation, inspiration, ideas and more. Their YouTube channel also provides tutorials, tours, and interviews with designers, dyers, and makers. These sisters have extensive experience in corporate training, management and presentation. But it was their experience as yarn shop owners that honed their skills for teaching fibre crafts.

Barb and Cynthia have always offered workshops as part of their LYS offerings. For over 20 years, they've been educating and supporting their customers and have a knack for helping you to feel welcome and at ease in their classes. They have a wide range of interests and areas of expertise that incorporate: knitting, crochet, spinning, machine knitting, colour and yarn choices. As former yarn shop owners, they are also creative problem solvers!

And now, Barb and Cynthia are sharing their yarn shop knowledge and expertise with makers around the globe, via live (and recorded) virtual classes. Join in, learn and ask questions, build new skills at your pace and gain confidence in your abilities with Barb and Cynthia as your coaches.
