Have a little fun with this jaunty, elfish hat. Knit from the top down, this hat pattern is quick to knit and takes less than one ball of yarn! We’ve given you four head sizes (toddler, child, youth & adult) and two brim ideas but you’ll find this pattern is easy to adapt if you want to add your own touches.

This pattern is available as a PDF Download.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  •  1 ball of RCY Epic (100% virgin wool; 200 m/100 g per ball) or an equivalent, worsted weight yarn. 50g will work for most sizes (may need more for adult heads). Note: River City Yarns Epic Yarn has been discontinued. For substitutions, we recommend Cascade 220 which is also a 100% Peruvian wool, for the closest fibre match. Alternatively, Berroco Ultra Wool or Rowan Pure Wool Worsted would also be good matches if you would like a superwash wool substitution.
  • 4.5mm double pointed needles (dpns) and one 4.5mm, 40cm circular or size required to achieve gauge
  • 3 stitch markers,
  • and a tapesty needle (for weaving in ends)

Gauge: 18 sts and 28 rows equal 10cm (4in) worked in stocking stitch, in the round.
Finished Sizes (circumference): Toddler: 40cm/16in; Child: 45cm/18in; Youth: 50cm/20in; Adult: 55cm/22in
