Live Online Chats with Engaging Creators

Fiberside Chats are one-hour online (Zoom) sessions with special guests, giving us a peek into their world. These designers and creators will discuss their unique path, creative processes, latest projects—or whatever is inspiring them now. There will also be a Q&A session, giveaways, and other fun surprises for those who join! The gatherings are organized and hosted by our friends at Longmont Yarn Shoppe. The registration fee for each chat is only $20 USD and the proceeds support the guests and participating yarn shops such as ours.

How to register: Join Barb, Cynthia and the River City Yarns group! Register on Longmont Yarn Shoppe's website and find River City Yarns in the drop down menu. Easy-peasy!

Sunday, April 2, 2023: Stunning Mosaic Projects! with Natasja Hornby

Have you found yourself captivated by beautiful mosaic knitwear designs and are curious to learn more about how to create stunning mosaic projects for yourself? If so, you’re invited to join us in a fascinating Fiberside Chat with knitwear designer, Natasja Hornby, as she discusses her exploration of the mosaic knitting technique and provides hands-on instruction to help you create your own mosaic works of art.

During the presentation portion, Natasja will provide a brief history of mosaic knitting. With this background knowledge, we will see how Natasja uses shawls as her muse to explore the infinite mosaic possibilities, and expand upon the basics, to design what she fittingly refers to as her ‘Grand Mosaic Shawls’. The story behind her design inspiration will take us to the beautiful city of Marrakech (Morocco), with its rich heritage in colorful textiles. Finally, Natasja will share samples of her stunning Grand Mosaic Shawl designs and elaborate more on the practical side of things, like choosing yarn, colors and reading the mosaic charts.

You're invited to knit-a-long! For a list of materials, and to register, visit Longmont Yarn Shoppe (and choose River City Yarns as your LYS!)

Natasja lives in Amsterdam and spends most of her non-knitting time on photography, visiting galleries, museums, and enjoying all of the cultural and culinary indulgences the amazing city of Amsterdam has to offer. Her work has been featured in Laine, Amirisu, Knit Now, and the Dutch crafting magazine, Handwerken zonder Grenzen. Visit the About page on Natasja's website to get to know her better at https:// www.moonstruck-knits.com/about/.

Sunday, April 16, 2023: Knitted-On Borders - A Perfect Finish! with Justyna Lorkowska

They can be simple or intricate, lacy or cabled. Your choice! One thing is sure: knitted-on borders give a unique touch to a shawl. This chat with Justyna Lorkowska will focus on how to attach knitted-on borders to a variety of shawl types (and garments!), how to create your own border pattern, and how to determine the amount of yarn you’ll need. Learn how to make your shawl one of a kind!

Justyna (aka Lete’s Knits) is a former English teacher and a knitwear fanatic. She learned her first stitches as a teenager from her mother but gave up on knitting until she had her first child. At that time she took up her needles with passion and began to design knitwear for children and adults. Justyna’s true passion is designing unique garments, especially seamless ones, with intricate details and beautiful finishing. Justyna was widely published in many well-known magazines such as Amirisu, Laine, Making and Pompom. She also published two books, Tabula Rasa: Neutrals, and Tabula Rasa: Speckles. In 2021 she created an indie yarn brand Cecily Grove Yarns offering small batches of beautifully hand dyed skeins by Justyna herself. Justyna lives in Poland with her three kids, and two pups. Play is essential to creativity and problem solving, and knitting toys is so much more than kid stuff! Join Anna Hrachovec of Mochimochi Land as she brings you on a tour of her playful knitted world—a world that started with gifts for friends and has evolved into art installations, children’s books, and even a forthcoming television show.
