Knitting isn’t just some heartwarming hobby. It’s hot!!!
Recent statistics show there are 24 million active knitters and crocheters in the U.S. alone.
Here at River City Yarns we take pride in our products and clients. We offer that personal touch with teaching and have flexible store hours as well as competitive pricing in our workshops.

Please note that River City Yarns (both locations) will be open on Labour Day (Monday, September 6) from 12:00 - 4:00 PM. After Labour Day, our winter hours will be in effect (scroll down).

We're very excited about the special events we have coming to River City Yarns - and our fall yarns are beginning to arrive as well. Check out all the details in our August newsletter.

  • We are bringing Kaffe Fassett to Edmonton! Yes, that's right. Kaffe will be making a presentation on "Simple Shapes, Spectacular Colour" at the Royal Alberta Museum Theatre on October 5. You can be there too.
  • Along with Kaffe, we're hosting Brandon Mably from the Kaffe Fassett Design Studio. Brandon will be teaching a colour and design workshop on October 5 and 6.
  • We also have Vancouver designer, Holli Yeoh, in at both locations of River City Yarns to teach classes. Holli is a fabulous instructor and you'll have a great time. Visit the August workshop page for all the classes, dates, times and details.
  • Wool, Wine and Wheels 2010 is happening on November 5 - 8 and the talented Jane Ellison will be joining us. Details can be found on our Special Events page.
  • We have UFO yarn... a great new sock yarn that comes in a little cake. It's double stranded so you can knit two things at once or easily reel off the yarn to wind into two balls.
  • And for all of you who want to knit Canadian Buffalo sweaters, we have a replacement yarn. Locally produced, no less!
  • This month, our Downtown location is featuring a 20 colour palette of Berroco's Vintage (yarn). A beautiful, soft yarn at a great price.
  • And our Southside location is bringing in Rowan yarns, starting with Amy Butler's debut collection - a new knitting design book and an aran weight, organic cotton-wool blend.
  • Looking for value yarns? We have those too. Each location has a good selection of inexpensive yarns for those big projects.
  • Our August workshops are up. In addition to Holli Yeoh's classes, we have the Egyptian Bracelet (knitting with beads), Twisted Cord Bracelet and Baa-Baa Bangles (no knitting required - no prerequisites), Felted Slippers, Double Knitting (completely reversible), Entrelac Scarf, Drop Spindle Spinning (make your own yarn), Finishing Techniques and of course, Knitting 101 (learn now!) Visit our workshop page.
  • Cool Tools are available for fibre-artists of all ilks. We have more Knit Kits in stock and a few, very cool magnetic boards with stands for keeping your patterns in place.
  • There's a free pattern (link) on page 4 of the newsletter for a Shrugigan by Schaefer Yarns. It's an easy knit garment that can be worn three ways. Perfect for fall wear.
  • And check out the Gallery updates. There's a story there to inspire you to finish - and then, keep going!
