This month's Flash Mob is dyed by Julie Asselin Yarns, from Sherbrooke, Quebec, and is inspired by the book, Treasure Island (1883) by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Behind Julie Asselin Yarns, foremost, are Julie and Jean-François, two craftspeople driven by the need to offer original yarns that will unleash your creativity. On their Fino base, inspired by the book's description of the treasure map, they created an exclusive colourway with primary tones that remind one of aged parchment and ink, conveyed through speckles and variegation.

"It was about nine miles long and five across, shaped, you might say, like a fat dragon standing up, and had two fine land-locked harbours, and a hill in the centre part marked “The Spy-glass.” There were several additions of a later date, but above all, three crosses of red ink--two on the north part of the island, one in the southwest-and beside this last, in the same red ink, and in a small, neat hand, very different from the captain’s tottery characters, these words: “Bulk of treasure here.””

As a special add on, each skein of Fino comes with a complimentary laser engraved button, designed by Diane Fillinger of Brickbubble.

Ball Weight: 115 g / 4 oz
Ball Length: 370 m / 400 yds
Knitting Gauge: 28 sts = 10cm / 4"
Needle Size: 2.75 mm (US 2)
Yarn Fibre: 75% superwash merino wool, 15% cashmere, 10% silk
Care Instructions: Hand Wash. Lay flat to dry.

Pattern Suggestions: Hot Shawl—using 2 skeins of Île aux trésors (Treasure Island) and 1 skein of Fino in a solid colour for an accent. We recommend a solid panel section after the feather and fan section, to ground and accent this amazing Île aux trésors colourway.

Barb and Cynthia think that these gorgeous speckles would also create a beautiful cardigan for your little treasure. Ann Budd has two sweater patterns that would work well with this yarn. Aubrey Cardigan, a pattern for baby girls, is a raglan cardigan featuring a gentle ruffle. For boys, the Dalton Cardigan is tailored with set-in sleeves. The softness of merino, silk and cashmere is perfect for being next to baby's skin.

This yarn has a shiny, silky sheen that's also suitable shawls, wraps, and sweaters.

Note about hand painted yarns: These skeins are dyed by hand and may vary in colour and/or intensity from skein to skein, even within the same dyelot. Colours viewed on different monitors may have shade and tone differences from the actual product. We recommend working 2 rows from one skein (wound into a ball) and 2 rows from a different skein to blend any colour variations.
