This month's Flash Mob is dyed by Rhichard Devrieze Yarns and is inspired by the book Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Shelley.

"His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips."

Frankenstein is dyed on Rhichard's Fynn base, a high quality, worsted weight, machine washable merino. Each kit contains:

  • One 84 g/160 m skein of blackest black
  • Four 42 g /80 m midi (much bigger than a mini) ghoulish colour skeins
  • A laser engraved wood button, designed by Diane Fillinger of Brickbubble
  • Treats to enjoy while contemplating what to make with Frankenstein

Skein Weight: 84 g / 2.96 oz, Midi Skein 42 g / 1.48 oz
Skein Length: 160 m / 175 yds, Midi Skein 80m / 87 yds

Pattern Suggestions: Zürich Hat by Eric Lutz done in black with colourful stripes! Make two! You'll have lots of yarn! Would Frankenstein add a pompom? We would!

Here's a story of the colour way development as told by Robert, Rhichard's partner.

The blue stippled is called MISTY EYES . . . because there's an element of soul expressed through the eyes in humans and Frankenstein is and isn't human and there's a pathos to my mind.

The orange variegated . . . QUITE CONTRARY . . . relates to the essentialness of blood but it's the problem of a blood that's not what it should be and Frankenstein, sadly, isn't sufficiently aware of that, or perhaps is, but it's what he has, what he has to deal with.
The yellowish stippled . . . FAINT MEMORIES . . . had me thinking about the skin being our largest organ and for most humans the least understood and the organ that has to deal with that contact between self and all of the 'elements' of a living being in their immediate environment.

And the green variegated . . . IN SEARCH OF . . . is, for me, the essence of the creation and the turmoil between the creator and the creation.   Both have separate 'searches' and they have a connection and a disconnection and there's the tragedy, but a tragedy that causes everyone else to think.
Lastly ....BLACK AS BLACK  . . . simple but fitting for the theme!

Our thanks goes out to Robert and to Rhichard for pouring their heart and soul into this month's Flash Mob Pages Collection....  We love it!

Note about hand painted yarns: These skeins are dyed by hand and may vary in colour and/or intensity from skein to skein, even within the same dyelot. Colours viewed on different monitors may have shade and tone differences from the actual product.
