You, Me & Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

Barb and Cynthia are pleased to offer some additional add-ons to your Yarniversity Wool, Wine & Wheels 2024 experience. Please read the following very important notes before registering for any of these sessions:

  1. Registration for these workshops and events are limited at this time to those who have completed their booking through Fresh Tracks Canada for the Wool, Wine & Wheels 2024 excursion from Edmonton to Jasper, AB.
  2. Please register only for yourself. If your Wool, Wine & Wheels 2024 travel companion(s) want to be in the same class, we ask that each person registers individually.
  3. "So You Knit A Pandemic" (Stephanie's talk on April 13) AND "Knit Smart" (a fabulous workshop with Stephanie on April 15) have enough seats for everyone on the trip to take this class. Sign up for both of them!
  4. "Alternate Colourwork" and "Warm Hands" have limits on the number of participants. Please limit your registration to one of these two alternatives.
  5. Don't see all of the classes? Just click on the drop down arrow in the box above the "add to cart" button. When you select a class from the drop down menu, the number of seats remaining and the registration fee will adjust itself as well.
  6. Would you like to see the pricing in USD? There is a currency conversion button in the top right corner of this webpage. Just click on it to choose between CAD and USD.
  7. Questions? Please send an email to info@yarniversity.ca or call 780-477-9276, ext. 5 and Barb or Cynthia will respond as quickly as possible.

Workshop Details:

April 13 from 8:00 - 10:00 pm | “So You Knit A Pandemic”

Come to our evening talk with Stephanie Pearl McPhee. Bring your project, settle in and get to know your fellow travellers. Relax. (There may be a cash bar). Stephanie will entertain us with her talk, “So You Knit a Pandemic”. Stephanie’s talks are entertaining and fun for everyone, so all are invited to purchase a ticket. (Yes, your travel companions will love this talk too!) Early bird Registration fee: $15.

April 14 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm | Alternate Colourwork

It's so popular, we're offering a second session (see April 15 below): this brand-new class by Stephanie is an exploration of knitting with colour, without doing any stranded colourwork! We’ll have some fun with stripes, learn about jogless jogs, and play with slipped stitches and manipulated stitches to create fancy patterns that only use one colour per row. We’ll investigate mosaic knitting, and even look at braids. We’ll even talk a little about how to choose colours that go together, and how you tell if they do. Supply list provided at registration.

This is a 3 hour workshop with a maximum of 24 participants. The registration fee is $75 CAN per person.

April 14 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm | Warm Hands

Mittens are an infinitely interesting project for knitters, no matter their level. Whether you’d like to make warm mittens for shovelling, dress mittens for your best coat, fingerless mitts for fall days or an everyday pair for a child, you can make mittens without a pattern. We’ll look at three thumbs, options for tops and all the structures I can think of, and you’ll leave with a mitten started (and maybe finished) and a pattern that’s just what you want it to be. A supply list will be provided at registration.

This is a 3-hour class with a maximum of 20 students. The registration fee is $75 CAN per person.

April 15 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm | Knit Smart

This lecture style class (that means mostly talking, like at University) deals with best practices in knitting, and talks about how to (usually) prevent knitting mistakes and (mostly) fix them. Out of the myriad techniques, ideas, yarns, patterns and tools available to knitters, how can you be sure that the ones you choose will give you the results you want? This class looks at how to predict how knitting is going to work, very clever ways to solve knitting problems, and how to streamline knitting so that you’re doing less work, and creating better stuff. This class is useful to knitters at all levels, and is Stephanie's very favourite one to teach.

This is a 3 hour class with room for everyone on the trip. The registration fee is $75 CAN per person.
