Frequently Asked Questions at River City Yarns

Updated as of July 24, 2023

We're glad you asked...

Did I hear that you've closed your retail location?

Yes, our bricks and mortar shop in west Edmonton is no longer our space. Visit the "old shop" and you'll find a lovely, locally- and family-owned bakery.

Are you changing your name?

Yes, we're going through some rebranding to reflect how our business has changed. We want you to get a sense of the type of community that we're building and supporting online. We hope that you'll agree that "Yarniversity" is a place you might enjoy belonging to.

Do you sell yarn online?

Because we don't have a physical space (to store yarn), we've switched from selling physical products to a platform that will help you learn and grow (and possibly use up that stash of yarn that threatens to fully take over the spare room / closet / trunk of your car. Our website is devoted to online classes, knit- and/or crochet-a-longs, meet ups and causes and events that we like to support. While you won't find any yarn to purchase, if you need something in particular, let us know and we'll recommend a place for you to find it!

I have an older gift card. Can I use it online?

Yes. If you have a gift card with a short serial number on it (4 digits or 6 digits) you can use it online. You will have to make it into an eight digit number by adding zeros to the front of it. For example, if your gift card has the number: 1234, you can enter it in online as: 00001234. Or if your gift card has a number that is: 10-1234, you can enter it online as: 00101234. If you need help with gift cards, please email: cynthia@rivercityyarns.com or call the shop at 780-477-9276, extension 3.

I don't know if I'm set up for online classes. What do I need?

You need access to the internet. You can participate in real time with us using a computer or mobile device (like a tablet or a phone). We use Zoom as our video conferencing platform. If your internet is unstable or unreliable, don't worry; we record the sessions and allow participants to review the session for 7 days after the live event. Reviewing the video will require internet access but less bandwidth than Zoom.

I'm travelling and I don't have internet access. How can I participate in an online session?

If you don't have internet access and you're worried about reviewing the video recording, just contact cynthia@yarniversity.ca. She'll arrange a different viewing date for you.

You can also check in at the local public library in the place you are visiting. Many public libraries will offer internet access at no charge to locals and visitors alike.

Can I just call you?

Absolutely! Call 780-477-9276 and press 5. Barb or Cynthia will answer your call and be happy to help you out.

Thank you!

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers whose online shopping have kept us going through these difficult economic times. Your words of support and your willingness to try something new has been amazing. We are so grateful. Thank you.

Barb, Cynthia and as always, our wonderful team of people at River City Yarns
