What is a Yarnicorn? Well, it’s a mystical and wonderfully unique yarn that you simply can’t find anywhere else. It’s crafted by one-of-a-kind dye artists, often local. And once it’s gone, it’s gone. 2022 will be the last year of the Flash Mob series and every month during 2022, on the 20th day at 6:00 PM Mountain Time, you will be able to order on our website, a one of a kind, unique and special Yarnicorn colourway to cherish.
Unicorns are said to have healing powers. Well, the Yarnicorn will contribute to the aid of local citizens. Each month, a portion of sales will go towards a different charity or organization. And in each month of 2022, Barb and Cynthia will use one skein of Yarnicorn to make a square for a "Memories" blanket that they will auction off for charity at the end of 2022.
December marks the last colour offering for the Yarnicorn series. It's called Odd One Out and truly sums up our one-of-a-kind theme!
Designed and dyed by our friends at Hand Maiden, here's a message from Jana about the inspiration for this colourway.
"It's a Black Tie event... Stepping on the red carpet with trepidation, you walk into the Gala only to realize that you've missed the memo; this is a black and white event and you're decked out in screaming hot pink. No matter. You look fabulous. The belle of the ball. Sometimes it is better to be the Odd One Out."
We've asked for Hand Maiden to use their Eden base, a luscious worsted weight, superwash merino, cashmere and nylon blend to commemorate this last colourway of the series. Here's the details on the yarn:
Ball Weight: 115 g / 4.06 oz
Ball Length: 195 m / 213 yds
Knitting Gauge: 20 sts = 10cm / 4" (Worsted Weight)
Needle Size: 4.0mm (US 6)
Yarn Fibre: 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon
Care Instructions: Machine wash, delicate. Lay flat to dry.
Purchase a skein (or more) of Yarnicorn each month and use it to create whatever your heart desires and/or join Barb and Cynthia in making The Yarnicorn Memories Blanket, a "modular" (join as you go) blanket inspired by our Gramma Tutton, who made lap blankets for all of her grandchildren, in this very way. As you cuddle under your blanket, you can remember all the projects you made! Download the free pattern
$2 from the sale of every skein of Yarnicorn this month will go to the Alberta Art Gallery. Donations to the AGA support opportunities for established and emerging artists, community engagement and the growth of their permanent collection.
Note about hand painted yarns: These skeins are dyed by hand and may vary in colour and/or intensity from skein to skein, even within the same dye lot. Colours viewed on different monitors may have shade and tone differences from the actual product.
