Join Barb and Cynthia on May 3rd, 2021, for a six-week, MYSTERY Knit-A-Long (MKAL) in which we embark on the "Always Better Together" journey with designer, Brenda Brayfield.
The Project and the Clues
Brenda has designed a beautiful summer weight asymmetrical triangular shawl, especially for Rowan DK weight summer cotton blend yarns. Knit sideways from the right tip to left edge, each week you will receive a new clue, with fully written row-by-row instructions and stitch counts for every row. No need to feel rushed as there is ample time (and no brioche!) between clues to complete each section.
This is a great way to learn new stitch patterns and/or a new techniques and to try beautiful cotton blend double knit weight yarns to make a shawl/wrap. You will be invited to our Ravelry group page, where you can post pictures of your works in progress (wips) and your Rowan yarn colour choices, visit with others and see their wips, ask questions & chat with Brenda. You will also receive an invitation to join Barb & Cynthia's six week, fun and educational show and tell, held on Zoom.
How to Join in and get the MKAL for free!
Thank you for supporting River City Yarns and our Canadian designers. This past year has been really challenging for all of us and we agree with Brenda, that we're "always better together". You purchase yarn, which supports our business and we help you to learn new things and create a lovely project, with Brenda's help!
To join in, and get the MKAL registration, pattern clues and zoom meet-up sessions free, you simply need to do this: 1) add this MKAL to your cart; 2) purchase 7 balls (or more) of one of the four Rowan yarns listed below; and 3)use the web coupon code: ABT KAL at checkout to have the MKAL discounted 100% (free).
The yarns for the MKAL are: Rowan Summerlite DK, Rowan Cotton Cashmere, Rowan Denim Revive or Rowan Softyak DK. Yarn investment ranges from $84 to approx $140 CAD depending on the amount and blend of yarns you choose. For more details on yarn, gauge, needles and notions required, click here.
You will need two contrasting colours in the following amounts. Note: an extra 10% buffer has been added to account for swatching and gauge differences between designer and other knitters. One yarn must be distinctly darker than the other.
- Main Colour (MC) – 470 m / 514 yds DK
- Contrast Colour (CC) – 420 m / 460 yds DK
Our test sample was made by Brenda (designer) with Rowan Summerlite DK, (MC – 4 balls Mocha #451 and CC – 4 balls of Powder Pink #472). She followed the pattern to the letter and had a ball of CC left over. You might be able to do it with 3 balls of CC if you happen to have the same gauge as Brenda.
RCY's sample was made with 8 balls of Rowan Cotton Cashmere. We used all of 4 balls of each Charcoal #232 for MC and Ecru #226 for CC. A few extra rows were added for a very generous wrap size.
